Hunt Valley, MD
The 2007 ESS Symposium is located in the heart of Maryland's horse country, just twenty minutes north of Baltimore's Inner Harbor. The Hunt Valley region of Baltimore County is rich in history, with many parks and recreational sites. Baltimore County has a high concentration of horses and horse activities, including foxhunting, steeplechasing, timber racing, eventing, dressage and polo. There are also approximately 150 Thoroughbred horse farms located throughout its rolling countryside. One of the most famous is Alfred Vanderbilt’s Sagamore Farms, the original home of the great Native Dancer, Geisha and Discovery.
There are numerous steeplechase and flat races throughout the year, including the Legacy Chase at Shawan Downs located minutes down the road from the conference hotel. Every April you can watch the Maryland Hunt Cup, the oldest and most difficult timber race in the country. Just south over the city/county line is Pimlico Race Track, home of the Preakness, the second jewel of the Triple Crown of racing.
Marriott’s Hunt Valley Inn, the conference hotel, is a full-service hotel offering newly renovated guest rooms, health club facilities, and indoor/outdoor swimming pool. There is a Light Rail Station within walking distance of the hotel for easy access to and from downtown Baltimore. There are also dozens of excellent restaurants within a five mile radius of the hotel. Hunt Valley is the ideal location for the 2007 Equine Science Society’s Symposium.
