Description This position is for a full time department chairperson in the department of Equine Studies The position begins in August 2021. SMWC has the only equine program in Indiana to offer a Bachelor of Science degree in equine studies, and one of approximately 20 equestrian colleges in the U.S. to offer a Bachelor of Science degree in equine studies. The college is looking for a visionary leader to capitalize on the equine industry in Indiana and neighboring states and the need for more academic offerings in equine and/or large animals. Department Chair responsibilities include, but are not limited to: program planning, developing, and implementing department goals; programmatic and staffing review, course scheduling, budgetary oversight, promotion of collegiality, assurance of distribution of departmental responsibilities and faculty involvement in college service, and resolution of student and employee concerns where possible. This position also includes a 10-month, tenure-track, faculty role. In the faculty role, responsibilities include undergraduate equine science including nutrition, health, lameness, reproduction, genetics, selection, and exercise science which support departmental majors and minors. Additional responsibilities include advising students, mentoring undergraduate research, and general service to the college. Rank and salary are commensurate with experience. The 24-credit hour contract load includes one course release per term for chair responsibilities.
