POSITION: The Department of Animal Science, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor with an emphasis in equine science. This is a 9-month, tenured or tenure-track position with research (50%), teaching (40%), and service (10%) responsibilities with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2023.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and lead an independent, extramurally funded, nationally/internationally recognized research program in the field of equine science that will contribute to advances in nutrient utilization, physiology, reproduction, genetics, animal health and well-being, animal system sustainability and/or societal benefits of horses and other livestock. The successful candidate will enhance a multidisciplinary faculty, and this position in equine science will complement and extend current research initiatives and strengthen an already strong faculty in the department. This position will contribute significantly to serving both undergraduate and graduate students across the department's curricula. The successful candidate will develop a teaching program that includes a graduate course and additional contributions to undergraduate education. Additionally, this position will also serve undergraduate students pursuing the Equine Science Certificate program. This position will also fill a critical role in the research profile of the newly formed Texas A&M Institute for Equine Sciences and the Departmental Areas of Excellence: 1) Cattle Adapted to Tropical and Subtropical Environments; 2) Pregnancy and Developmental Programming; 3) Quantifiable Animal Performance; 4) Student and Stakeholder Engagement; and 5) Safety, Quality, and Nutrition of Food Products.
RESOURCES: Texas A&M University is a public, land-grant institution with several high-quality academic units conducting research, teaching, and service activities with equine. The candidate would have opportunities to collaborate with a broad range of Texas A&M University System researchers who participate in several interdisciplinary programs, including the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Genetics, Interdisciplinary Faculty of Reproductive Biology, Texas A&M Institute of Neuroscience, Texas A&M Institute of Genome Sciences and Society, and Global One Health Initiative. There are extensive opportunities to collaborate with individual faculty members within the Department of Animal Science, Department of Kinesiology and Sport Management, School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and the School of Medicine.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS: A Ph.D. in Animal Science or related field with emphasis on equine science is required. Evidence of outstanding research potential is required for consideration for appointment at the Assistant Professor rank. Prior faculty-level experience, evidence of successful grantsmanship, and outstanding research accomplishments are required for appointment at the Associate Professor rank. A demonstrated ability or potential to maintain a strong graduate program is required.
