Seeking applications for Assistant Farm Supervisor – Horse Barn. This position reports to the Horse Barn Supervisor. This person will maintain a clean facility including horse stalls, equipment shed and breeding laboratory. This person will provide daily care of the equine herd to include feeding, watering, grooming and exercising horses. The person will assist farrier and veterinarian with hoof care, preventative care and restraining horses during procedures. Additionally, they will assist with class preparation including demonstration of routine horse care to classes, operate trucks, horse trailers, bush hog, sprayers, weed trimmers, etc., related to the program and supervise student workers as assigned. Additional support will be required during horse program special events such as Equestrian Team or Stock Horse Team shows, horse judging contests and related public service activities. Irregular hours are often required, and assistance in other areas of the MTSU Farm Laboratories operation may be required as needed. The Assistant Farm Supervisor–Horse Barn is required to work outside during all weather conditions throughout the year, and must be able to perform physical activities including lifting and carrying feed bags and hay bales up to 100 lbs. Knowledge of basic horsemanship, upkeep of equine facilities, knowledge of normal and abnormal health of horses. Able to perform basic equipment maintenance, effective communication skills, able to multitask, establish priorities and work effectively with diverse populations. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and two years of horse stable, barn or farm experience is required. Valid driver’s license required. Bachelor’s degree in horse science, animal science or other agriculture-related field strongly preferred and may be considered in lieu of work experience. Application deadline: August 23, 2023.
