The University of Tennessee Department of Animal Science is seeking a motivated graduate student for a 1/2 time teaching assistantship position (20 hours per week) under mentorship of Dr. Jennie Ivey. This opportunity is ideal for a candidate with experience and interest in equine nutrition, Extension, and teaching. Position offers opportunities to develop leadership and teaching skills while working closely with undergraduate students in courses and teams, including the horse judging team. Position to start for Fall 2025 semester (August 2025). Responsibilities: -Organize and lead class meetings, guest speakers, other tasks for courses taught by Dr. Ivey -Coordinate and lead travel to and participation in regional and national horse judging competitions -Support recruitment and outreach efforts to engage prospective students -Collaborate with department head mentor to ensure alignment with departmental goals and objectives -Conduct research and work in a team environment to disseminate research outputs -Assist with other equine-related educational activities and events as needed Qualifications: -Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Equine Science, or a related field (completed by May 2025) -Background working with horses or other equids, leadership of student organizations/teams, and travel experience is ideal -Excellent communication and organizational skills -Enrollment or acceptance into a graduate program at the University of Tennessee Compensation: -Assistantship includes a 1/2 time stipend ($35,328 per year), tuition coverage, and student health insurance in accordance with University of Tennessee policies To apply: Send application materials including a cover letter, resume or CV, and contact information for 3 references to : Dr. Jennie Ivey at jzivey@utk.edu
