Description:
The Animal Science Department in the College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State is seeking a Horse Farm Manager. The position will be responsible for daily care and management of a herd of 70+ horses used for teaching, research and extension programs.
Specific duties include:
-Work with faculty coordinator and veterinarian to manage the breeding program which include semen collection, processing and shipment, breeding mares.
-Direct and supervise one full time farm technician position.
-Hire, train and supervise several part time student employees.
-Assist faculty with preparation and presentation of various classes and labs.
-Assist with equine research and extension programming.
Required Qualifications:
-Three years of equine and farm management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
-The ability to communicate effectively with staff and students is necessary.
-Basic computer and record keeping skills required.
Preferred Qualifications:
-A bachelor’s degree in animal or equine science is preferred.
